July is a fun time for baseball fans. It doesn’t matter what team you support: the All-Star Game, Homerun Derby and Trading Deadline are special times for any franchise. Will this be reflected in the top baseball card subscription boxes in July 2024?
Home Team Box is a monthly baseball card subscription box featuring cards ONLY from your favorite team. This season, we’ve also introduced a “mixed box” for fans who enjoy collecting the top stars and prospects, no matter which team they play for.
Do Home Team Box subscriptions show how successful a team is? We’re finding out this year through our monthly subscriber countdowns. In July, would baseball fans order subscription boxes from buyers or sellers at the deadline? How many All-Stars were on each of the top teams? Let’s find out with our rundown of the top baseball card subscription boxes in July 2024.
5. Baltimore Orioles
We’ve heaped so much praise on the Orioles this year, and they’re deserving of the love they’re getting from fans. The Orioles have consistently been listed in our countdowns, and today’s list of the top baseball card subscription boxes in July is no exception. The Orioles had five All-Stars this year: Corbin Burnes, Gunnar Henderson, Adler Rutschman, Jordan Westburg (a Rookie of the Year candidate) and Anthony Santander.
The trading deadline saw them flip fan favorite Austin Hays for Seranthony Dominguez and Cristian Pache, as well as picking up Zach Eflin from the Rays for a trio of prospects. In various trades, they also picked up Gregory Soto, Trevor Rogers and Eloy Jimenez.
After a hot start to the season, the team went 12-13 in July. Will these changes, particularly those on the pitcher’s mound, be enough to keep the Orioles above the Yankees on the standings? Time will tell, but Orioles fans seem excited to find out.
4. Boston Red Sox
Continuing the AL East theme, we have the Boston Red Sox as the 4th most popular baseball subscription box in July 2024. Despite a team record of 11-13 in July, there was a lot to be excited about as the team’s young core is getting better. The team had three All-Stars: Rafael Devers (injured), Jarren Duran and Tanner Houck.
The Red Sox acquired Danny Jansen and Luis Garcia in separate trades, and saw Triston Casas begin a rehab assignment for the rib strain he experienced in April. Jarren Duran had a great showing at the All-Star Game and he continues to hit the cover off the ball.
3. New York Yankees
The Yankees – Will we ever see a month when fans don’t clamor for Yankees subscription boxes? Perhaps not. The perennial favorites in the AL East are working hard again, even though they only had an 11-13 record in July. In the All-Star game, the Yankees had three representatives: Clay Holmes, Aaron Judge and Juan Soto.
At the trading deadline, the Yankees are must-see TV as the question is never “if” but “how much” they’ll seek to improve their team. This season didn’t disappoint, as the Yankees acquired Mark Leiter Jr., Enyel de los Santos and Jazz Chisholm Jr. in a flurry of trades. They also got Giancarlo Stanton back from the IL and signed Brett Phillips as a veteran presence.
2. Atlanta Braves
A bunch of injuries has hurt the Braves chances in July, with injuries to Max Fried and Ozzie Albies, and Michael Harris moving from the 10-day IL to the 60-day IL. Despite this, they went a respectable 12-13 in the month of July, much like the other teams on this list.
The fact is, the Braves are still – even with these injuries – one of the best teams in baseball and their players are beloved by fans. That made them the second most popular baseball card subscription box in July.
But who was number 1?
1. St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals are the only non-East Coast team on this list, and the only team that actually had a winning record in July (13-12). They’ve appeared on this list all year thanks to a combination of likable veterans (Nolan Arenado, Paul Goldschmidt, Miles Mikolas, Willson Contreras) and exciting young players (Masyn Winn, Lars Nootbaar, Nolan Gorman). Meanwhile, explain how the Cards lone All-Star representative was their closer, Ryan Hensley?
But speaking of Masyn Winn – He’s the favorite to win the NL Rookie of the Year right now. He hit .264 in July with a .322 OBP, and he’s only getting better. As much as fans are disappointed about the handling of Jordan Walker, Masyn Winn has helped to soften the blow.
At the trading deadline, the Cardinals gave Dylan Carlson a much-needed change of scenery by sending him to Tampa. They were also part of a three-way trade that say them get Erick Fedde and Tommy Pham in exchange for Tommy Edman and Oliver Gonzalez. They also cut ties with Giovanny Gallegos. Will this make the team better? The fans will decide in August’s list of the top baseball card subscription boxes.
